.)How long have you been a nurse? This year I celebrated 17 years of being a nurse.
.)Why did you decide to become a nurse? I honestly became decided to become a nurse, at the suggestion of my guidance counselor. Originally I wanted to be a doctor, but I hated math. My High School guidance counselor then suggested become a nurse. He said " As a nurse you will always be able to find a job". That's a very true statement. There are so many specialties in nursing , that you can always move around until you find your niche. I am proud member of Black Nurses Rock Inc. and the Nassau County.
.)Tell us about your company, how you are connecting the community and healthcare, and how your business can help healthcare professionals. I created Women Of Integrity Inc. seven years ago. We are known for our annual free prom dress giveaway and prom makeover project. This year we held our 2nd Annual Women In Business Networking Brunch. We also work with a local high school's after school mentoring program. With the mentoring program, we go in on a weekly basis and talk to the girls about different topics. We have also hosted etiquette workshops, financial education workshops, and healthy living workshops. Through our Healthy living workshops , is how I connect nursing and healthcare to educate the community. During these workshops / health fairs we will have panelist cover varied topics and we also have health related vendors. With this event , I always reach out to other healthcare professionals and nursing organizations to participate.
.)What are your passions outside of nursing? My passion outside of nursing is working with young women, hence one of the reasons I created Women Of Integrity Inc. I love to help people. Giving back is one of the most rewarding experiences.
.)Where do you see yourself, within the nursing profession, in 5 years? Within in the next 5 years , I see myself with my masters and away from bedside nursing. I would love to become a nurse educator. I like training new nurses. Or getting out of the inpatient setting all together and doing more community nursing
.) What are you most proud of/biggest accomplishment(s)? My biggest accomplishment thus far, was receiving a community service award on July 14th, 2017 from the NAACP , for my work in the community. This book is comprised of myself and nine other nurses as we share our journey in nursing and becoming entrepreneurs. Here's the link to the book:
